Mennonite Brotherhood Aid Association of the Pandora-Bluffton Area was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization July 9, 1949. Its purpose is “to collect, borrow or solicit funds to provide financial assistance on a mutual aid basis, where there is definite need, to establish a modest home, get an education or get a start in farming, business or profession.” Only members of Ebenezer Mennonite, First Mennonite, Grace Mennonite, or St. John Mennonite churches are eligible for membership and loans or assistance in MBAA. Membership fees are $2 for children under 18 and $5 for adults. Current trustees from St. John are, Doug Lehman and President is Steve Reichenbach. Gary Bishop of Bluffton is treasurer. Large loans must be secured by a first or second mortgage, while smaller loans can be secured by personal notes. Upon approval by trustees, loans currently are available at a rate of 5%. Depositors earn 4 ½% on money loaned to the association. Persons interested in borrowing money should contact their MBAA representative. Those interested in depositing money can contact the treasurer for further information.
